Passwords must be secure—this includes voicemail passwords. In fact, Microsoft reports that they fend off 7,000 unauthorized password attempts every second. Do hackers genuinely seek access to your voicemail account? In short, yes. Even the FCC has issued warnings about this.

They can use it to gather information about your company’s secrets or personal details about you. They also employ a voicemail forwarding feature to direct calls to international phone numbers, leaving you responsible for the bill.

Many websites allow password reset requests through phone calls. If you don’t answer, hackers can listen to the message and take control of your account.

Hackers attempt to break in all the time, even on weekends and holidays, when you are not monitoring your voicemail.

What should you do?

Change the default password.

Never use sequential or repeating numbers, such as 9876 or 1111.
